It all rests on the last home that we built.

Yankee Custom Builders specializes in extraordinary custom homes and renovations in the tri-state area. Based in New Canaan, Connecticut, the company is on the rise and is known for its ability to make the complexities of homebuilding a positive experience for all involved. Founder Justin Meneguzzo established Yankee Custom Builders as a precision management firm that promotes forward thinking, excels in communication, and provides comprehensive professional services. Yankee Custom’s craftsmanship, quality materials, clear budgeting and scheduling, and knowledge of refined products culminate in homes that capture the imagination of clients and architects alike.

Justin Meneguzzo

Owner / Principal

Dedicated to the craft of building fine residences that endure for generations, Justin established Yankee Custom Builders in 2015. His expertise in managing and building custom projects—working in tandem with the client, highly regarded architects, engineers, designers, and allied trades—is becoming well known in the northeast. Originally from Torrington, Connecticut, Justin graduated from Central Connecticut State University with his degree in Construction Management. He notes, “My goal was always to create my own company; one that merges best practices in business with the craft of construction. I grew up working in a family-run business and my parents were terrific mentors. I also had great experiences early in my career working with Hobbs, Inc. Everything I love about building and working with great people shapes Yankee Custom Builders and our reputation. We are all about service, quality, and attention to the client.”

Regarding his focus on specialty residential construction Justin says, “Homes are such personal backdrops for life, raising families, and building memories. Navigating the inevitable challenges in the home building process is something we do extremely well. It is my job to make the building process fun, exciting, and full of possibility.”

Ed Simao

Project Superintendent>

Born and raised in Danbury, Connecticut, Ed initially planned to become an architect, but discovered his passion for carpentry while at the Henry Abott Technical High School. Ed chose the custom building industry because the variety and challenge of one-of-a-kind projects appeals to his talents and sensibility. His commitment to building at the highest level while also maintaining clear client communication resonated with Justin, who believes that the process of building should be enjoyable, and the two have worked together since 2015. Ed notes, “While there is constant and fascinating change in the industry, what doesn’t change is the excitement I have for our work and what we achieve in partnership with our clients, architects, and subcontractors.”

Kellen Freeman

Project Manager & Estimator>

Kellen hails from a family of engineers in Windham, New Hampshire, but always enjoyed the hands-on aspect of construction. He pursued his Bachelor’s of Science at Central Connecticut State University—where he met Justin—to merge his engineering inclinations with his equally natural affinity for construction. Today, Kellen contributes to the everyday management duties that come with active projects as well as handling bidding and estimating. Kellen remarks, “When Justin needed help managing the office side of YCB and asked me, it was a no-brainer. It is fulfilling to be part of an up-and-coming company that has at its core construction management. An increase in specialized education for the field has made a direct impact on how we operate and build, which I believe is unusual.”

Bob Martin

Project Superintendent>

Originally from West Hartford, Connecticut, Bob has always been intrigued by complex projects and had a love for construction. He attended the Rochester Institute of Technology and graduated with a degree in electrical engineering. Initially roped into large project supervision, he found he had a knack for managing the daily challenges of custom homebuilding and finds the work gratifying. Along with his colleagues, he notes how new software and technology has transformed the construction business. “Implementing Procore and other tools used to handle huge volumes of information and communication—specifically on custom projects—saves a lot of time and headaches and allows us to spend time on relationships with the client, architect, and our team, all of which creates the best projects possible.”

Brian Stumpf

Project Superintendent>

Brian grew up on Staten Island, New York, where he roamed the local construction sites and his cabinet-maker grandfather inspired him. By the time he attended college, construction and building remained his interest and he studied architecture at the New York Institute of Technology. After practicing as a licensed architect for 17 years, an opportunity to work on the other side of the drafting board came up. He says, “I have enjoyed the change—I was always interested in the way buildings come together ‘in the real world;’ what is on paper is only half of it! You never stop learning and we work with the best architects, engineers, designers and craftspeople—people who are extremely talented. Our combined efforts raise the bar every day.”

Marisa Meneguzzo

Business Manager>

Marisa grew up in Torrington, Connecticut and attended Boston University (B.S. Communications) and the University of Connecticut (MBA in Marketing Intelligence). She established her career initially in television and then later with high-profile market research projects for companies such as Microsoft and FedEx. Having personally experienced a challenging renovation, however, she recognized how imperative it is to have skilled, thoughtful, and experienced people on the job to handle whatever comes up. She was delighted to assist when her brother Justin started Yankee Custom Builders. Initially, Marisa implemented early marketing efforts, established systems and best practices. Today, helping Justin run the firm is her full-time occupation. In her role, Marisa manages human resources, IT, marketing, and accounting.  “I make sure that everyone on the team has what they need, that we have a conducive working environment, and most especially that the clients know that we will take care of them; they can always call. We want them to be happy with the process of building their dream home.”
